Aftermath

By now, most of you have probably seen the damage that typhoon Milenyo has done to Metro Manila. I'm sure we all have a story or two to tell about this disaster. Here's mine.

Yesterday, I woke up really early because of a text message from our Directress saying that we don't have work (Classes are suspended but not necessarily teachers' work). So, I turned on the TV to watch the news. I was surprised to find out that storm signal # 3 is over Metro Manila! I woke up my husband telling him to call off work in his office too! He did. So we stayed in bed the entire morning.

Come lunch time, as we were enjoying sipping our hot soup, I noticed the wind started blowing really hard - as evidenced by the swaying tree outside our balcony. As I watched the branches sway harder and faster, I thought to myself, "hey, that would be a good photo!". So I stood up, got my camera, opened the door to our balcony (boy was the wind blowing hard!) and within seconds, this is what I captured:

ONE...
... TWO...
...THREE.

I was stunned! Sure, I've seen falling and flying trees, roofs, billboards, what have you, on TV, but I never imagined witnessing something similar right before my eyes! Plus, you wouldn't think something like that will happen close to home! Right?

I am really thankful that no damage was done to our home and that my family and friends are all safe and dry. I hope you all are too. Extra thankful for being one of the lucky ones to have our electricity restored as early as 3pm yesterday.

Here are some photos I took on my way to and from school, of the damage done by the typhoon:

Let us pray for those whose homes have been blown away and loved ones injured or passed away.

Bookworm

I was never a voracious reader. Heck, reading does not even fall under my list of hobbies and interests. Every so often, I do read. Mostly, I read books that I personally pick out, as oppose to a recommended one. And since I personally pick out these books, more often than not, I get to finish reading it in one or two sitting, regardless of the thickness. Needless to say, I only read one book at a time.

Lately, I think, I am unconsciously developing my interest in books -- reading books, to be more precise. Why do I say this? Last weekend, I was fixing my night side table and noticed something:

A stack of books! Books that I am CURRENTLY reading. Yup, I am reading all six books at the moment. It's taking me longer than usual to finish a book, but my point is, I am reading A LOT more books now and more frequently, I must say. I've even started borrowing books from friends! I've stopped squirming whenever my hubby leads me into a bookstore. I sometimes even initiate going to one!

I don't know if juggling several books at the same time is a good thing, but getting into the habit of reading sure is!

Weekend Getaway

Just got back from Boracay! I had an awesome, awesome time! It's my first time to go to Boracay this time of year, and the experience it different - and I will blog about it some other time. Meanwhile, here are snapshots of our wonderful weekend (Kathy, got the slideshow link from your blog. Perfect way to show pictures without uploading them one by one. Thanks!).

Yipee!!!

I'm finally getting rid of this travel bug. I'm getting on a plane tomorrow for a weekend getaway! What's more, coincidentally, my best friend will be there, too! Bait talaga ni Lord!

Sigh (of relief). At least I get an interim travel before our long vacay towards the end of the year.
