Tidbits

Finally got to see Rent the movie! I am such a huge fan of the musical -- I watched it 5 times on stage, I memorize most of the songs, I know most of the lines! So imagine my excitement when they announced the movie version (I almost watched it in Singapore in the fear that they won't show it here in the Philippines!). I was not disappointed at all. I couldn't help but sing in the movie house. I loved it, like I did the first time I saw it. I clapped at the end of the film. Of course, Angel is such a darling. I just love her. I can't wait to see it on Broadway and watch Jai Rodriguez as Angel.

The other night, I swam with ear plugs on. Not that I have a problem with water getting into my ear while swimming, but I just wanted to see how it would feel like. It really blocks water entering your ear, but what I like about it is that it drowns out all the noise around (including the splashing of fellow swimmers), letting you concentrate and focus more on your exercise. I should get my own (those were my hubby's, hehe). And maybe I should get a swim cap, too (my hair is too long already, it gets in the way. Or maybe I should just get a haircut...)

I gained weight (eek!). And I blame it on this. I can't wait for my next shipment.

Finally got to go to Plantation Bay and contrary to popular belief, it is not expensive at all. Okay, okay, it's not cheap but the place and the experience is well-worth every penny you spend. Check out their website and I can attest that they definitely have truth in their advertising (I'll blog more about this place and other beaches next).

Just found out that Rotiboy in Singapore closed down (all branches!)! And I was looking forward to Myke bringing some home last weekend! WHY?!!! It is by far the best bun I have ever tasted! I swear, my mouth is watering just thinking of its buttery goodness! Oh well, when we just go to Malaysia then.

If you see me on YM, you would know that I'm back in the advertising world. Temporarily. I was hired as a consultant for a month and a half. I figured, since our house is fixed, we have house help already, I might as well do something with my time as I wait for that teaching job (which i will hopefully get in time for the next school year). And I must say, it is a VERY lucrative racket. Of course you don't get benefits, but that is well compensated, believe me.

This corporate stint is making me miss wearing my flip-flops, smoke more often, skip lunch again and most of all wake up early!

It's been a month since I requested for certified true copies of our marriage contract and until now it's not available yet. How inefficient can NSO get?! Now, I cannot have my name officially changed, can't open a joint account with my hubby and getting confused with what name to use. Even the renewal of my passport is pending! Augh!

I really, really want to buy a new camera, but I'm getting myself a new PC and broadband internet first. Sigh. Hopefully, I get to purchase it before we travel.
***
I can't wait for Easter, when I'll be able to start drinking soda again! No colored drinks is usually my Lenten sacrifice and believe me, IT IS a sacrifice because I am a Coke addict. Plus with the summer heat, who wouldn't want to sip into a glass of refreshing fruit shake?!

We felt so bad we ran out of tickets when it was staged. Thank goodness Zsa-Zsa Zaturnnah (Ze Muzical) is having a re-run! And we grabbed our tickets the day it hit the ticket stands.

Pardon the disorganized thought-flow. I'm just taking a break. Alright, I better go back to work.

The Chocolate Factory

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is one of my favorite movies of all time! I have seen this film ten times over since I was a kid (Thanks to my future sis-in-law, Anya, I now have an original DVD copy). Imagine my excitement when they announced the remake. I was too excited that I became too worried that the remake will fall short of my expectations.

Well, I was not disappointed at all (It was worth watching it in Gateway's Globe Platinum Cineplex 10 - but that's a different story.)! Charlie and the Chocolate Factory rocked! I won't go into comparing the two versions because I love both!

I swear, I am such a fan! I will definitely let (make is more like it, hehe) my kids watch this (after Lion King, hehehe) as soon as they are old enough to understand.

Tale of Two Loves

I wasn't feeling very well over the 3-day weekend, so Myke and I stayed home and watched some videos. Two of the films we watched showed two faces of love which got me thinking ...

Closer
I don't understand how people can be in love with someone yet want to be with someone else! "Wanting your cake and eat it too" is just plain selfish (I just hate two-timing jerks!). At the same time, I don't know why people stay with someone even if they're in love with someone else! Playing "martyr" will not get you to heaven. I think it's not right when you're asked whether to go with the one you love or the one who loves you. Either way, people get hurt and that just isn't fair nor right. Look at what happened to the characters in the film, they all ended up alone and miserable (and not alone but miserable) .
"People get married because they need a witness to their life". I love this line from the movie because it perfectly captures the essence of our being in a relationship. Not only do we want to take care of each other as we grow old, but we want each other to make sure that our life does not go unnoticed. When I was single, living independently, constantly dating, I knew that if singleblessedness was my destiny, I would be happy. And yes, I was honestly happy being single. But I found the witness to my life and I'm not complaining. It feels great! But as the moral of the film would remind us, "Never lose yourself". I guess at one point in our lives, we fall hopelessly in love and lose ourselves in the process. And even if you end up in a relationship that's perfect, you tend to channel all your energy, thoughts and interests to the relationship and forget to nurture yourself. You end up constantly craving for something which can sometimes jeopardize a relationship. Just like Mr. John Clark.

In college, a friend and I would constantly discuss whether love or commitment is more important in a relationship. Years after college and several relationships after, I learned that a healthy relationship is where a couple can continously grow as a couple and as individuals. It takes more than just love and commitment. There's loyalty, trust, honestly, sacrifice, fidelity, compromise, etc. A lot of hardwork, I should say, but it's all worth it when the one you're with and the one you love is one and the same person.

We might see different faces of love as we go along, but I believe that it each says only one thing -- it is the greatest feeling in the world when you find the one that's right for you.
